What do you get when you combine the clean, crisp bitterness of a West Coast IPA with the softness of a hazy? For us, it’s Perpetual Haze!
Envisioned as a companion to our best-selling Perpetual IPA, Perpetual Haze was one of the first beers we developed through our 3-barrel “Scratch Lab” R&D brewhouse.
“We took the DNA of Perpetual IPA and made some slight changes to the malt,” explains Tröegs brewmaster and co-founding brother John Trogner. “The big differences are in the timing of the hops and a change in the yeast.”
For Perpetual Haze, we found that later kettle hop additions and vigorous dry-hopping yielded fruitier flavors and aromas. Front and center are Citra and Cashmere, a hop combination that lends juicy notes of orange, passionfruit, and nectarine.
Rather than using our house ale yeast strain, our brewing team landed on London 3 yeast to help coax those fruity notes we were looking to achieve with this beer.
“Our house ale yeast is what gives Perpetual IPA a clean, crisp finish,” says Trogner, “but the London 3 yeast in Perpetual Haze gets us that fruity, estery note we were looking for.
We think Perpetual Haze IPA and Perpetual IPA are perfect companions, each boasting huge citrus notes but with a “yin and yang” of hop flavors.
Weighing in a 7.5% ABV, Perpetual Haze is smooth, hazy, and pillowy soft thanks to a grain bill featuring a blend of malted barley and raw wheat.
Perpetual Haze Hazy IPA is available on draft and in new wrapped 4-packs of 16-oz. cans everywhere our beer is sold. And be on the lookout for 12-ounce cans of Perpetual Haze inside our Summer Better variety 15-pack dropping in May. For now, you can find Perpetual Haze near you with our Brew Finder.
